Science and Technology Fair - Spring 2024
Please join the Penn Postdoc Association in Houston Hall’s Bodek Lounge on Wednesday May 15th for its Spring 2024 Science and Technology Fair.
Connect with representatives from area science and technology companies while enjoying free lunch, potential prizes, and unique offers. All are welcome - not just postdocs! Please feel free to grab your lab mates and stop by! Please be sure to bring your Penn or CHOP ID for entry.
This event is planned and coordinated by the PPA’s Fundraising Committee and constitutes a critical fundraiser for support of PPA programming.

Foreign National Committee Presents Board Game Night!
Come play board games and meet new friends! Choose from the Philly Game Shop’s diverse collection of board games, or bring your own!
Food and beverages will be provided
Game masters will be available on site to teach board games. Family and friends are welcome!

Saturday Science Demos!
Saturday Science Demos are back!
Join the Community Outreach Committee on Saturday May 25th in Clark Park to present demonstration modules of complex scientific topics to interested members of the local community.
Our demonstrations coincide with Clark Park’s weekly Farmer’s Market. Join us to build your skills in communicating science to the public and enjoy a great day together at the market! We have experienced trainers available to support and guide you through your teaching - beginners welcome!

The PPA FNC in collaboration with Financial Wellness @ Penn is pleased to invite you to our first financial wellness workshop: Introduction to Personal Finance. As a part of the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs’ New Postdoc Orientation, we are thrilled to welcome new and current postdocs to a ‘special’ Happy Hour on Thursday, November 16, 2023. This happy hour will feature better than average catering from our usual happy hours as a result of co-sponsorship by the Office of the Vice Provost for Research (OVPR), the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, the Biomedical Postdoctoral Program, and the Penn DuBois Postdoctoral Circle. New postdocs are invited to join us earlier at 3:30 for a special chance to get to know other postdocs in their entering cohort.

BRIDGE TO THE ACADEMY
The Penn Postdoctoral Association Diversity Committee, Du Bois Postdoctoral Circle, School of Arts & Sciences Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion office, and Biomedical Postdoctoral Programs office are collaborating to host an opportunity for postdocs from diverse backgrounds to connect with faculty members of color across multiple disciplines at Penn.
Join us for a panel discussion where invited faculty speakers from STEM and non-STEM fields will share their unique journeys and perspectives establishing themselves in academia, followed by a cocktail reception where faculty panelists and postdoc attendees will have the opportunity to converse and network.

Transitioning to a Green Card
Dear International Postdocs,
Based on the survey that you took indicating interest in learning about transitioning to a green card, FNC of PPA is happy to invite you to our collaborative workshop with ISSS, “Transitioning To A Green Card” on September 28th (Thursday) at BRB II/III auditorium, 4-6PM.
In this event, immigration lawyers will present on how different visa holders can transition to a green card and you get to ask them questions in a Q&A session. We also encourage you to send your questions ahead of time in the registration form here by 9/7 to pass them on to the lawyers. RSVP by 9/25.
This is a FREE event for postdocs with pizza and beverages.

PPA Park Games - Kickball Edition
PPA Park Games - Kickball Edition
Please join PPA for our second Park Games – Kickball Edition! After lots of fun at the Spike ball event a month ago (attached picture), the PPA is ready for another sporty afternoon during which you can join the games, meet new fellow postdocs, or just hang out in the park! The event will take place at the Penn Park (next to tennis courts, map provided on flyer) on Saturday September 16th from 2:00-5:00 PM. Postdocs from ALL INSTITUTIONS (e.g., Penn, CHOP, Monell, Swarthmore, Wistar, etc.) AND ALL SCHOOLS (e.g., PSOM, SEAS, SAS, Annenberg, Wharton, Penn Carey, etc), as well as ANY SPORTS FANATIC (e.g., family, kids, friends, etc)!
Kickball is an extremely fun sport which requires NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE. It is basically softball played with a larger, softer bouncier ball that is rolled and kicked for kickers to try and get round bases while fielders can get them out by getting the ball to the base before them. We will also incorporate some dodgeball elements to make things more exciting! Even if you don't want to play it was a fun afternoon out last time.
